"Children of all abilities, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make choices about what they want to do. They move around well-planned rooms, selecting resources that they are interested in. Children enjoy a range of activities that staff plan to support their curiosity. They are encouraged to become independent learners and develop confidence. "

The Pioneers room is for children aged from approx. 3 years to school age. We cater for up to 24 children each session on an 8:1 child to adult ratio.

Through a variety of topical activities, outdoor play games, role play and craft, the children are introduced to a wide range of familiar and new skills and experiences through which they can practice, explore, investigate and learn. Music and movement, songs, action rhymes, stories and group discussions are also used to help the children enjoy learning. Through the thoughtfully planned curriculum and taking children’s interests into account, children are stimulated into wanting to learn and thus become well prepared in all the basic skills. The children are exposed to activities through structured and free play which is balanced with quieter periods of the day such as story time and small group table top activities. The Pioneers Room has a number of computers to support children’s development in ICT and also has an interactive whiteboard. This technology is used in a variety of ways and enables the children to become confident with this prior to starting school. Preschool children have daily access to our amazing outdoor adventure playground.

The Early Years Foundation Stage framework is used to plan for children’s individual development and next steps. All children have a ‘Learning Journal’ detailing this with lots of lovely photographs showing your child enjoying their time at nursery.
